COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Officer Steven Smith is being called a hero in life and in death, thanks to his live saving choice to be an organ donor.
Smith’s organs could save up to eight lives and help dozens more.
The pinwheels planted at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where Smith died Tuesday, represent lives saved through an organ donation and transplant.
Ron Packard had his life saved when he received a liver donation. Not only was Packard’s life saved, but it also meant his children would eventually be born.
“My hope is that because something good came from their loss, there’s a little bit of good there they can hold onto,” said Packard.
Marilyn Pongonis, Director of Communications with Lifeline of Ohio says Smith’s donation is just another way the officer saved lives.
“Officer Smith was dedicated to service. Service to the community, service to mankind and that he made a decision to be a donor at the time of his death is just a continuation of his commitment,” Pongonis said. What others are clicking on:
