PAINESVILLE, OH (WCMH) — Undercover video caught a Painesville man doing handyman work while collecting temporary total disability from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.
Mark Walker was sentenced on one felony count of workers’ compensation fraud on Friday. He’s ordered to repay nearly $75,000.
Walker was not supposed to be working while recovering from injury, but an anonymous source led to an undercover investigation. The investigation revealed Walker was running Mark’s Handyman Service, and he’s been running the business for nearly five years while collecting his workers’ comp benefits.
“The purpose of temporary total disability is to give injured workers time to recuperate, and work activity during that recovery period is prohibited,” said BWC Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer. “Mr. Walker deceptively returned to employment for several years and continued to collect thousands of dollars from BWC.”
