YOUNGSTOWN, OH (WKBN) – Ohio State Representative John Boccieri is criticizing a new attempt to regulate popular games like fantasy football and the “Queen of Hearts” contest recently won in Garrettsville.
A new measure in the Ohio House would place regulations to prevent those who operate games like this from keeping any of the money that’s collected. All of the money would have to be paid out to the winners.
The measure even covers fantasy football leagues where players put in money to take part.
“It’s almost laughable that State House Republicans talk about getting government out of the way,” Boccieri said. “What do they want to do?…Under the Casino Commission, they want to put a for-profit corporation under the control.”
Lawmakers supporting the measure claim those operating such games are breaking the law if they pocket any of the fees collected.
The bill would also create specific rules overseeing the games.
Eight other states already regulate fantasy sports games around the country.
