CHILLICOTHE (WCMH)–The Chillicothe Fire Department has confirmed a woman has died after a crash Thursday night.
It happened at the intersection of Watt Street and Main Street. Firefighters found that an RV and a Ford Taurus collided in the intersection. The RV caught fire, and the flames extended into the car.
The woman in the Taurus, 73-year-old Donna Good of Chillicothe, was first transported to Adena Regional Medical Center and then to a hospital in Columbus. She died later that night.
“The front of the vehicle was mostly involved. So, the driver seat, passenger seat and the entire engine compartment, that was all on fire,” says Capt. Noel Akers of CFD. “The two occupants of the RV, they were not hurt and not transported.”
The RV was driven by Gina Miller, 46, of San Bernardino, CA.
“I heard a big boom and horns. I was terrified. I was shaking and crying because I was upstairs, I didn’t know if I could even yell for anybody,” says Chelsie Keller, who saw the fiery crash from inside a house nearby.
“The neighbor, Duane Sayer, he came out and pulled the lady from the driver seat and unhooked her seat belt, pulled her out and pulled her all the way to his front yard to his wife Julie,” says Keller. “Right after he pulled her out, the car just blew up in flames. It’s hard to say what would happen if he didn’t pull her out.”
Keller says the neighbor’s wife, Julie, held the woman in her arms and held a washcloth to her head as they waited for first responders to arrive.
“They’re good people. They’re wonderful people. They’re good people because obviously they don’t even know the lady and they basically saved her life,” says Keller. “I just hope the lady does good and prayers go to her and her family.”
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
