ROSS COUNTY (WCMH) — One person is dead after leading a Chilicothe police officer on a chase early Friday morning, according to police.

It started with a traffic stop for expired tags in Chilicothe around 2 a.m. Police say the owner of the car also had an expired license.

During the stop, a woman got out of the car, then police say the driver drove away.

After the driver took off, investigators say the officer pursued the suspect along U.S. 50 east near the U.S. 35 split.

We’re told the officer lost control of his cruiser and crashed.

The driver continued on but lost control of his vehicle too, flipping several times and crashing onto an embankment. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the police officer was not seriously injured.
