COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person is dead after a semi-truck accident on Interstate 270 on the southeast side.
It happened around 1:45am Saturday. According to the Columbus Division of Police, 28-year-old Maria Hayslip was driving a 2013 Hyundai north on I-270 just north of State Route 33. Police say her vehicle stopped in the center lane for unknown reasons and the vehicle’s lights were out.
Benjamin Devries, 32, was traveling north on I-270 in a 2012 Freightliner semi-truck. The truck was also in the center lane. Devries’ truck struck the rear of the Hyundai, sending it off the right side of th eroad where is truck a tree.
The semi-truck jackknifed and went of the right side of the road where it flipped onto the drivers’ side and rolled until it struck a tree.
Hayslip was pronounced dead at the scene. Devries was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
