LINCOLN CO., Ore. (WCMH)–A sheriff’s deputy in western Oregon jumped to action after seeing a two-year-old child running down the middle of a busy highway.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office uploaded dashcam video of his encounter with the youngster. The toddler had slipped away from his parents through an open door as they were cleaning up after a party.

Deputy Jeremy Gautney spotted the child in the road. He quickly stopped his car and scooped up the two-year-old boy. He then made contact with the boy’s family, who had been frantically looking for him.

A lieutenant with the sheriff’s office said the video was not meant to shame the parents, who are not facing charges in what deputies are calling an accident.

“The following video is for educational purposes and not intended to ridicule or question those involved,”said Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Curtis Landers. “The incident was investigated thoroughly and determined to be accidental and no criminal charges will be brought to the parties involved.”

Instead, deputies are now asking you share the video as a vivid warning to other driver. They say this is a perfect example as to why you need to pay full attention when driving as you could face unexpected conditions at any moment.
