OSHP seizes $700,000 worth of cocaine during traffic stop in Madison Co.

MADISON COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — Troopers say more than 15 pounds of cocaine were seized after a traffic stop in Madison County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at about 8:38am, August 1, troopers stopped at 2016 Kia Sorento with Idaho registration for speeding and following to close violations on Interstate 70.


Troopers say after a drug-sniffing dog was called to the scene after criminal indicators were observed, and the cocaine worth $700,000 was found.

The driver, Desiree Smith, 19, and passenger, Elijah Padilla, 19, both from Los Angeles, California were arrested. They were both charged with possession and trafficking in cocaine.

If convicted, each could face up to 20 years in prison and up to a $40,000 fine.
