COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Spring weather finally arrived, just in time for the OSU Spring Game Saturday in the ‘Shoe that kicks off in 70-degree weather around 1:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the men’s lacrosse matchup versus Michigan.
Last year brought a new record attendance mark (99,391), besting 2009 (95,722), with sunshine and near-80 degree weather at game time. Saturday beat last year’s mark, with a crowd of 100,189 in the ‘Shoe, enjoying warm sunshine and a game-time temperature in the low 70s.
This is the second year the game will be played on the new synthetic turf, which replaced the field turf installed in 2007. OSU Associate Athletic Director Don Patko noted. “the old synthetics we used to have in Ohio Stadium was a nylon product. What we have today … has a sand and rubber base.”
OSU home games were played on grass from 1990 through 2006, after two decades of artificial turf in the 1970s and ’80s.
The only difference you may notice is the missing plastic logo above the scoreboard that was partially blown down in a windstorm two Saturdays ago. The new logo will be up well before the season starts.
