COLUMBUS (WCMH) – With Mirror Lake drained and fenced off, some Ohio State students are thinking about possible alternatives to the tradition jump into the icy waters.

“I heard that people might jump in the Olentangy, like the Mirror Lake late at night,” said OSU Junior Quincy O’Malley.

“There might be a river jump, but the Olentangy is really gross,” says OSU Sophomore Max Melchioris.

Other alternatives involve students stripping down to their birthday suits.

“I’ve heard of the alternative being the “Undie Run”.  People are going to dress up in the underwear and run around campus,” said freshman Greg Discona. “I would do it. The mirror lake jump was freezing I would assume. I don’t see why not, why would we not do this.”

Whatever new tradition students decide, University officials and campus police say student safety this week is their number one priority.

University spokesperson, Chris Davey said in a statement:

“Law enforcement and public safety from Ohio State and Columbus will be working closely all week to support an atmosphere where Beat Michigan Week gatherings are safe and responsible. As always, our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. We look forward to a great week on campus, a happy Thanksgiving holiday, and a big win on Saturday.
