COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — An Ohio State University student team at the Center for Automotive Research is doing maintenance on the Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3 vehicle that recently established a new land speed record in the category of electric cars.

The four-year project culminated in an average two-way speed of 240 mph in August 2015, certified by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). David Cooke, OSU project manager said, “We use this as a platform for research technology testing. So we’re pushing batteries, motors, components that will be in your everyday car.”

Cooke said the goal this year is to breach to 400 mph speed barrier this summer at the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah. Weather conditions, especially moisture, play a huge role in track conditions, and side winds cannot exceed 14 mph during testing.
