COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)- Nereda Saucedo thought the fireworks were done by Sunday night when she let her three dogs outside in her fenced in yard.
Then some neighborhood explosions, she went out and only found two dogs.
“I went out to look, and only saw my German shepherd and chihuahua,” Saucedo said. Her Husky mix Flora was gone, and after hours of searching, found no sign of her.
“She is really shy, she usually sleeps by my bed,” Saucedo said.
This morning, she joined dozens of worried pet owners at the Franklin County Dog Shelter.Franklin County Dog Shelter: Click Here
“None of us have had much sleep, had to call people in to help process all the dogs,” shelter director Kaye Dickson said.
As owners walked through the shelter, they hoped for the best, and it worked out great for Saucedo.
“They took me to so many, and I started to think, I’m not going to find her, then they took me to the last one, and there she was,” Saucedo said.
It’s the perfect outcome, and many of these dogs will be microchipped before they leave for home.
“We are so happy, and it gives us a chance to do some education too,” Dickson said.
As of noon Monday more than 90 dogs had come to the shelter after the weekend of fireworks, about one-third had been reunited with their owners.
