Piketon business cleans up after storm destroys building

PIKETON, OH (WCMH) – A local business in Pike County is cleaning up after early morning storms Thursday.

Dirik Pressler has worked at Grandview Buildings & Supply for almost 20 years.

“It was like broad daylight at 4:30 in the morning,” says Pressler. “Thundering, lightning and then a blast. It was over with, five minutes later it was done.”

He says when he first saw the destruction, it looked like a war zone. The roof was blown away, along with one whole side of the building. A two-story building, is now a one-story building.

“I waited until about 6:30 a.m., came over and looked. There was debris strung from there across the parking lot laying everywhere,” he says.

He says they’ve been working all morning and all day to clean up the debris.

“It looked like a bomb went off. It was a nightmare,” he says. “The rest of the building is laying in pieces.”

He lives nearby and says this isn’t the first time a bad storm has come through this area.

“About every three years we get one,” he says. “Yeah, I’m scared. I’m wanting to move. The fourth time could be my house.”

Pressler says he is unsure if the owner of the building will rebuild or not. What others are clicking on:
