COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Firefighters say a fire that broke out at Plank’s Bier Garten, early this morning was appears to be accidental.

According to Columbus firefighters, at about 5:17am, Wednesday, emergency crews were called to 888 S. High Street on the report of a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found a working fire in the second story of Plank’s Bier Garten. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire before it breached the roof of the building or into the kitchen of the restaurant below.

The fire remains under investigation, but investigators say the cause appears to be accidental and may be linked to the break-down of the unprotected wood members in close proximity to the steel exhaust hood & vent.

No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at about $50,000.
