Police: 3 people killed large turtle with M-80 firecrackers

MANHEIM, PA (WHTM) – Three Lancaster County people are facing charges after police say they used M-80 firecrackers to kill a large turtle.

Northern Lancaster County Regional police said a 17-year-old boy and 21-year-olds Taylor J. Geib and Austin M. Garner, both of Manheim, placed two M-80 firecrackers on the turtle’s shell and lit the fuse.

The trio is charged with criminal conspiracy and prohibited weapons. The teen is charged as a juvenile.

Police said the investigation began Aug. 3 with a reported explosion in the 1100 block of North Penryn Road. A small crater with the turtle’s remains was discovered in the area.

Witnesses gave officers a description of the people they saw at the time of the explosion and the truck they were in, police said.
