COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police have stopped searching the Scioto River for the evening after a child reportedly fell into the water near Berliner Park.
Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin said several children were by the dam in the area of Greenlawn Avenue and Scioto Boulevard, near the bike path. At least two of the children ended up in the water.
Firefighters said one child was able to get out of the water, but they were unable to find the second.
Sgt. Ed Powell with the underwater search and recovery unit said his crew had the sonar boat out and looked in several areas, but did not find anything.
He said there are some steep drop-offs in this particular area of the river and some swift currents, as well as trees and hazards that can catch on clothing.
Powell said the team will begin searching again Friday morning.What others are clicking on:
