Police: Drunk woman tried to remove body from casket during funeral

COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) — A Columbia, Tennessee woman faces several charges after police said she walked into a funeral in progress and tried to pull the body from the casket.

Cynthia Ann Frierson is accused of disrupting a funeral, public intoxication, unlawful drug paraphernalia and driving on a revoked or suspended license.

Police said Frierson hit two cars with her truck and sped away before arriving to the Roundtree Napier Ogilvie Funeral Home. She then went into an active funeral and began grabbing a body in an open casket. Angry mourners then pulled her outside.

Police said Frierson had alcohol on her breath at the funeral home and had a small glass pipe with her.

“When you do drugs and alcohol, you just don’t know,” said family friend Gary Stovall. “You might do anything out of the ordinary you wouldn’t normally do. She needs more help than just being locked up. When you get tangled up in the wrong crowd, you get sidetracked and don’t do what you’re supposed to do.”

Frierson is being held on a $6,500 bond.
