COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Columbus police are hoping a bicyclist who may have witnessed the attack on a female jogger in German Village Monday morning will come forward.

Police released a photo of the cyclist taken from Eric Miles’ home surveillance camera across the street from where the attack took place.

“I’m hoping that it will help,” Miles told NBC 4.

Police say the cyclist rode through just seconds after the attack. Detectives stress that the bicyclist is not a suspect but may have seen something that could be helpful for the investigation.

The attack happened shortly before 7 a.m. Monday on the north side of Schiller Park near the intersections of Reinhard and Mohawk St.

The female victim says she was running in the area when she approached by man from behind. The victim says the man put her in a bear hug and began rubbing up on her.

The victim yelled and the man took off. According to the police report, witnesses say the man pulling up his pants as he ran off. The suspect is described as a thin man, between 5’4″ and 6’0″ tall.

Miles says he had looked out his windows just moments before the attack and had noticed the woman jogging and a man not far behind.

“…and when she slowed down, he slowed down and I thought, I hope she’s aware of her surroundings,” Miles said. “And I thought maybe I should step out on the porch but I didn’t and I wish I would have.”

Columbus Police suggest the following tips for walkers and joggers:

*  Keep the volume on your music down and head up.

*  Don’t be distracted.

*  Make eye contact – Eye contact may scare off attackers because they fear you will be able to identify them.

* Call police immediately. Do not wait.

The white male suspect was described as 35-50 years of age, 5’11” to 6′ tall, either dark brown or black shoulder-length hair that was wavy or curly.
