ATLANTA, GA (WCMH) —  An officer in Georgia has been fired after he reportedly flew a Confederate flag in front of his home.

“It’s a symbol of hate, a symbol of slavery, of dehumanizing us,” Pastor Lee Jenkins told WGCL.

Jenkins said he called Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant after a Confederate flag was seen flying in front of the officer’s home.

“He told me he would look into it and that he thought that it was very inappropriate as well, so he investigated it.”

Grant called Jenkins Thursday and told him that it was indeed a Confederate flag and the officer had been fired.

“I trust him. I know he did the right thing and will continue to do the right thing,” said Jenkins.

Grant would not tell WGCL the name of the officer and would only confirm there was a complaint that led to the firing.

Jenkins said that the officer had a duty to protect the community and that regardless of freedom of speech, police should be held to higher standards.

“How can we trust an officer like that to do their job with integrity,” asked Jenkins. What others are clicking on:
