BRADENTON, FL (WCMH/AP) – Authorities say a Florida woman tried to hire someone to get rid of her ex-husband, but she was content to have him kidnapped instead of simply killed.
The Bradenton Herald reports that Rachael Natalie Leahy, 34, was arrested Thursday and charged with solicitation of murder.
Arrest documents say Leahy spoke with a man she thought was a killer for hire but was actually an undercover deputy. An affidavit says she told the detective she wanted to have her husband “kidnapped and taken to other country and made into a sex slave.”
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office says Leahy told the detective that she wanted her husband gone so she could have custody of their children. Leahy said she knew the sex slave idea wasn’t realistic and would leave it up to the detective to decide what do.
Leahy then paid the undercover detective a total of $2,500 to have her 59-year-old ex-husband killed, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office told the Miami Herald.
Leahy was being held on a $100,000 bond with multiple conditions for her release. Jail records didn’t list an attorney.
