CINCINNATI (WCMH) – The race for the next governor of Ohio is heating up after another candidate named his running mate on Monday.

U.S. Representative Jim Renacci announced Cincinnati councilwoman Amy Murray will be on the ticket with him in the May primary election.

Murray is the chair of the Major Transportation and Regional Cooperation Committee and vice chair of both the Budget and Finance and the Economic Growth and Infrastructure committees for the Cincinnati City Council. Murray also served on Gov. John Kasich’s Police-Community Relations task force and an advisory committee on infant mortality. She is a former executive for Proctor & Gamble, where she worked in their Asian business development department. Murray also started her own consulting firm, Japan Consulting Group.

Renacci’s announcement came a week after Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Secretary of State Jon Husted announced they would be teaming up, with DeWine at the top of the ticket and Husted as the candidate for lieutenant governor.

The third Republican candidate, current Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, has not announced a running mate yet, and none of the six Democratic candidates have picked running mates either.

Renacci has positioned himself as a political outsider in the race, despite serving as the congressman for Ohio’s 16th district for seven years. He is a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump.
