People protest President Donald Trump, Project 2025 at Ohio Statehouse

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — At least 100 people took part in a nationwide protest Wednesday afternoon against President Donald Trump and Project 2025.

The protest was organized under the hashtag #50501, standing for “50 protests, 50 states, one day.” As in many other state capitals, people gathered outside the Ohio Statehouse, chanting against Trump’s policies and decisions throughout his two-plus weeks in office.

Online organizational flyers and infographics called for protestors to “reject racism, defend equality.” Different states’ protest flyers included different wording, but all opposed Trump and his administration.

“What’s going on with the president and the people who are supporting him right now, it has to be protested every way,” protestor Keith Dimoff said. “And we’ve got to do it probably for really our lifetimes, because this country is very important.”

Protestors voiced concerns with many of Trump’s decisions, including a slew of executive orders, a crackdown on immigration, controversial cabinet nominations, tariffs against foreign trading partners and, as of Tuesday, a plan for the U.S. to take over the Gaza strip.

Statehouse protestors shouted chants such as, “Donald Trump has got to go,” “Elon Musk has got to go” and “This is what democracy looks like.”

“As these full time protestors exercise their First Amendment rights, the overwhelming majority of the people exercised their rights at the ballot box in November,” a spokesperson for Ohio Senate Republicans said.
