NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR (KARK) — A pregnant woman will be recognized by the North Little Rock Fire Department in Arkansas after risking her life to save people in a burning building.

Monica Walters walked into flames and rescued families when fire sparked last month at Silver City Courts Housing Project. She says the only thing on her mind at the time was that there were several older people that needed her help.

“This one man to the left of this apartment, he could barley walk so I was trying to help him,” Monica says.

Monday, North Little Rock City Council approved a plan to honor Monica who is credited with saving the lives of many families who live at the apartment building. They’ll give her a ceremony and certificate for her heroic actions.

Monica says despite being pregnant, she would never hesitate to save someone’s life.

The North Little Rock Fire Department said some children were playing with fireworks outside, and that’s what sparked the fire.What others are clicking on:
