COLUMBUS (WCMH) – President-elect Donald Trump visited Central Ohio Thursday, following the attack on the Ohio State campus nearly two weeks ago.

Trump visited with first responders, the victims of that attack and their families at the Schottenstein Center.

It was a quick, but meaningful visit that Trump said he was honored to attend.

Columbus Police Lt. Eric David responded on the day of the OSU attack. He said Trump showed his gratitude toward first responders in a private meeting here at the Schott.

“With the current climate in law enforcement right now and the attacks on law enforcement officers, to have the president-elect Mr. Trump address all law enforcement, safety personnel…it’s outstanding for him to take time out of his day to come to us and support us,” said Lt. David.

After meeting with victims and first responders, Trump gave a quick statement. He said the victims and family members were “brave” and “amazing people”.

He also showed his appreciation for Officer Alan Horujko who shot and killed the attacker Abdul Razak Ali Artan on the OSU campus last week.

“The police and first responders were incredible. The job done in particular by one young gentleman was incredible and I got to meet him,” said Trump. “He was very brave.”

Trump also shared his condolences of John Glenn’s passing.

“To me he was really a great American hero, truly great American hero. I met him on two separate occasions, liked him, always liked him,” said Trump. “But, he was indeed an American hero.”
