COLUMBUS (WCMH)– Police are searching for prisoner Jeffrey A. Adkins who was on a medical furlough from Ross County.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Adkins, 25, was serving a 25 day sentence for petty theft in the Ross County Jail, and was also being held for a misdemeanor escape and resisting arrest.
Deputies say Adkins had hurt his left hand by shutting it in a jail door. When they took Adkins to Adena Regional Medical Center in Ross County, hospital staff informed correction officials that Adkins needed to be transported to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for further treatment.
Adkins was granted a temporary medical furlough to receive treatment and he was required to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on January 9, at 9am.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office says that on Monday, when a deputy attempted to question Adkins about a property crime that happened December 24, Adkins ran from the hospital. The deputy did briefly chase Adkins, but was unable to detain him.
Adkins is still considered on furlough until January 9, when he is expected to appear in court.
