COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man has been indicted for what the Franklin County prosecutor is calling the largest drug bust in Columbus.

Juan Ramierz

Prosecutor Rob O’Brien said Juan Ramirez, 25, of Salinas, California, was indicted on two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs and two counts of aggravated possession of drugs by a Franklin County grand jury.

O’Brien said Ramirez was in possession of 7 kilos, or 15 pounds, of fentanyl. Fentanyl is a drug that is being mixed with heroin. Law enforcement officials say it is responsible for many overdoses in the state.

The amount allegedly found is 100 times the bulk amount, making it the largest seizure of the drug in Franklin County according to O’Brien.

The charges are all first-degree felonies, punishable by 11 years as to each count.
