CLEVELAND, OH (WCMH) — Two up. Two down.

It appears the Cleveland Browns will likely be relying on Cody Kessler to run the show when the team faces the Miami Dolphins this coming Sunday, NBC Sports reports.

Quarterback Josh McCown hurt his left shoulder during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens. He never left the game.

But now, the team tells Cleveland.com that they expect McCown will “be out awhile” due to how much pain he was in after the game. McCown had X-rays after the game, and he’s expected to undergo an MRI today.

McCown said his plan is to play next week at Miami, but he would not divulge any test results or what he’s been told by the medical staff, a sign that his injury could require him to miss some time.

“We will see,” he said. “My mindset is that everything will be all right and we will move ahead business as usual.”

Third-round draft pick Kessler is next up for the Browns. The team also has rookie Kevin Hogan on the practice squad and Terrelle Pryor as an emergency third quarterback.

The Browns said they may also presue other options like free agents like Jimmy Clausen and T.J. Yates.

Making matters worse, the Browns said starting center Cam Erving suffered a bruised lung and will be held overnight at University Hospitals for observation. Erving, who was taken from FirstEnergy Stadium in an ambulance, will likely miss several games.

Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III broke a bone in his left shoulder during the team’s week one game. He was placed on injured reserve and will miss at least eight games.
