SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV/WCMH) – Savannah’s new baseball team rescued a seven-week-old puppy who will serve as the team’s official “bat dog.”

Daisy was left in Grayson Stadium’s parking without tags, a collar, or microchip.  She was found alone and crying near the front office door.

The owners of the Bananas have since adopted her and she’ll be a fixture at games. Team President Jared Orton said the dog was in good health, according to the team website.

“It was just meant to be that we’d have a team dog as part of our staff,” said Orton.

Daisy comes in to the office every day to help ship out Bananas merchandise and greet visitors dropping by to purchase 5-game plans and merchandise.

“We aren’t sure how big she’ll get, so it’s hard to say if she’ll be able to pick up a bat or just coach first base,” said Orton, “but as she grows, she’ll be a fixture at the ballpark.”

The Savannah Bananas are part of a summer league for college players. They open their season on Thursday, June 2.What others are clicking on:
