COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say a retired Columbus police officer was injured Friday afternoon in a motorcycle crash while escorting a funeral.

It happened around 11 a.m. Friday on the ramp from Interstate 270 east to US 23 south. The ramp is now back open.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been disclosed, but Columbus police confirm he is a retired Columbus police officer.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcyclist drove off the road to the left and crashed into some brush. The victim was ejected from the motorcycle, struck a guardrail, and was transported to Grant Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story.
