Ross Co. girl arrested for bringing a gun to school

ROSS CO. OH (WCMH)–The Ross County Sheriff’s Office says a 12-year-old girl was arrested Friday morning after she allegedly brought a firearm to her middle school.

Sheriff George Lavender says his office was dispatched to Huntington Middle School around 8:30 a.m. Friday on reports that a student brought a firearm to school.

Deputies arrived and spoke to school administrators, who reportedly said a 12-year-old girl had brought the firearm. School staff were reportedly able to retrieve the gun, a .380 caliber handgun, without incident. The sheriff’s office said the gun was not loaded, but ammunition was found “in close proximity to it.”

Deputies arrested the 12-year-old girl and took the firearm. The girl was transported to the juvenile detention center and will be charged with possession of a dangerous ordnance on school grounds. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
