Ohio State’s standout freshman is now a Los Angeles Laker.

D’Angelo Russell was taken by the Lakers with the 2nd overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft. Russell left OSU after his freshman season where he led the Buckeyes in scoring and rebounding. He led the nation in scoring for several weeks during the season and was named a consensus 1st team All-American. Kentucky’s Karl Anthony-Towns was taken #1 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Russell, who is originally from Louisville, is the 8th first round draft pick at Ohio State for Buckeye coach Thad Matta. The most recent OSU first rounder was Jared Sullinger in 2012. Russell’s also the 6th true freshman in Matta’s time at OSU to be drafted in the first round.
