NEWPORT BEACH, CA (WCMH) – The maker of Sammy’s Milk is recalling all lots of Sammy’s Milk Baby Food due to concerns of possible bacterial contamination.
According to the Food & Drug Administration, Sammy’s Milk Baby Food could possibly contain Cronobacter, a bacteria that can cause severe and sometimes fatal blood infections or meningitis. The formula may also provide inadequate nutritional levels of iron.
Sammy’s Milk Baby Food has been distributed through nationwide direct delivery from www.sammysmilk.com and in Mother’s Markets retailers in California. The formula comes in a 12.84oz white plastic container with expiration dates from November 2016 to August 2018.
The FDA also determined that the product, marketed as infant formula, did not comply with infant formula regulations and testing for the Cronobacter bacteria. The FDA also says that even though the formula meets the minimum requirements for iron content, the packaging contains no warning that iron supplementation may be necessary because of how low the iron count is.
