COLLEGE PARK, MD (WCMH) – A school bus driver saved almost two dozen kids from a burning school bus on Tuesday.
Reneita Smith was on her last route of the day when the bus started making noises. She started to smell smoke and saw flames in her side-view mirror. She knew she had to act fast. She put the bus in park and started escorting kids off the bus.
All 20 school children, ranging in ages from four to nine, made it off the bus safely thanks to the hero bus driver. Smith said residents on the street came out to help her keep the children calm as the flames engulfed the school bus.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
