WHEELERSBURG, OH (WCMH)–The Scioto County Sheriff says a 69-year-old nursing home resident has been arrested for raping another resident on Sept. 2.

The 60-year-old victim is mentally challenged, according to Sheriff Marty Donini. The Sheriff’s Office got a call from the charge nurse, who said an employee may have witnessed Newton Sowards sexually assaulting another resident.

The Sheriff’s Office arrived to investigate.

Sowards was arrested and charged with rape.

He is being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
