COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A second case of the Zika virus has been confirmed in Columbus.

Health officials say the case involves a 20-year-old woman who was recently traveling in Saint Lucia. Health officials say the woman was not pregnant.

Further information about the woman’s condition was not available.

The first case of Zika in Columbus involved a 38-year-old woman who had traveled to the Dominican Republic.

Zika virus is primarily spread through a mosquito bite, but it can also be spread through sex and from a pregnant woman to her fetus.

The most common symptoms of Zika virus are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week. There is no vaccine for the Zika virus, according to Columbus Public Health, and 80 percent of those infected do not have any symptoms.

The CDC recommends pregnant women and women trying to get pregnant consider postponing travel to areas with Zika virus transmission and that men with a pregnant sex partner consistently and correctly use condoms during sex or abstain from sexual activity for the duration of the pregnancy to prevent potential transmission.
