NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL (WESH) — Sharks struck beachgoers three times Sunday along Florida’s New Smyrna Beach.
The first bite happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. A 43-year-old man from Longwood was bitten on the lower leg while surfing. Despite suffering what officials called “significant lacerations,” the man is expected to survive.
Less than 30 minutes later, a 36-year-old Miami man was bit on both hands while surfing. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, authorities said.
The third bite happened just before 1 p.m. A 16-year-old surfer was bitten on his thigh. His injuries were described as minor.
