Sobriety checkpoint planned in southeastern Franklin County

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The Franklin County DUI Task Force announced Friday that they will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in southeastern Franklin County.

The exact location of the checkpoint has not yet been released.

The task force says they want to impress upon those who will be drinking alcohol to plan for a designated driver and to make sure friends don’t drive drunk.

Other safer ride alternatives include taxis and Uber.

While checkpoints are a highly visible deterrent with locations announced in advance, they are often held in conjunction with saturation patrols and other enforcement efforts.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety administration, in 2014 alone, 29 people were killed in drunk driving crashes over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period.
