COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio has announced a new tool for combating human trafficking in the state.
During a meeting of the governor’s Human Trafficking Task Force, the Ohio Department of Public Safety announced a new data dashboard that will coordinate human trafficking data from multiple state agencies into one location, which the state said would increase the public’s access to the information.
The dashboard includes human trafficking data from the state’s departments of children and youth, developmental disabilities, mental health and addiction services, rehabilitation and corrections, and youth services, each members of the Human Trafficking Task Force.
“Combining this agency-specific data for the first time helps to identify and connect survivors to services in a more comprehensive way,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement. “The new dashboard will also help develop a more accurate picture of the number of survivors by addressing duplicates in data.”
The dashboard is available on the state’s DataOhio portal.
DeWine pledged $9 million to fight human trafficking in the state’s 2024 budget, a portion of which funded the dashboard’s creation.
