TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – The results of a recent study suggest certain sunscreen ingredients may alter the way sperm cells work.
The study out of Denmark looked at 29 of 31 ultraviolet filters allowed in sunscreen in the United States and the European Union and tested them on live, healthy human sperm cells.
Results suggested nine of the UV filters are endocrine disrupters with some of the filters having the potential to affect motility.
The findings were significant enough for the study’s lead investigator to call for clinical studies to determine if ultraviolet filters affect human fertility.
