COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A man suspected of fatally shooting another man on the city’s south side is now it police custody.

Douglas Baisden, 52, has been charged with murder in connection with Sunday morning’s fatal shooting, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

The shooting happened in the area of South High Street near East Castle Road, according to police. Medics found Pete Staten, 51, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later.

Investigators believe Staten and Baisden were involved in an altercation before a deadly shot was fired. The suspect was taken into custody by police in the 2500 block of South High Street.
