COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say they are investigating after a man reportedly shot his girlfriend and fled with two children in the car before shooting himself.

Police say they were called to Silver Oak Drive Friday morning around 10:10 a.m. on a report of a female being shot.

Classie Mixon, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mixon worked as a correctional officer at the Franklin Medical Center, a medical treatment prison on Harmon Avenue. According to her LinkedIn page, she was a soldier in the U.S. Army and also worked for the Department of Youth Servives.

A suspect, identified as 28-year-old Keith Marshall, drove off at a high rate of speed. Columbus Police say that after a short pursuit, the suspect got out of his red pickup truck with a gun on Lowridge Drive. An officer fired his weapon and missed, police say.

Police say Marshall then shot himself. He was was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

Police also say two children, ages 5 and 6, were in the car. They are uninjured.

Police were at the Silver Oak Drive residence earlier that morning on a disturbance call, about an hour before the shooting.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story.
