WRIGHTSVILLE, PA (WHTM) – There has been an invasion at Ray Kohr’s house in Wrightsvilla, Pennsylvania.

Thousands, if not millions of mayflies have covered Kohr’s property along the Susquehanna River.

“The worst is in the driveway and over on the front of the house,” he said. “It’s terrible!”

Kohr said the insects started their annual takeover after Tuesday’s storm. He believes this is the worst he’s ever seen.

“They’re very annoying,” Kohr said. “You go to the mailbox, you can’t open up the window.”

About a mile down the road, James Dohm used a leaf blower to clean mayflies off of his deck.

“It’s disgusting,” Dohm said. “It makes you half nauseous just to look at the stuff. I don’t even want to put up my new flags because of that crap up there.”

Dohm and his neighbors aren’t sure why the mayflies are so bad this year, but they expect a rough couple of weeks.

“Last year, they lasted about three to four weeks,” Dohm said. “This is the second week. The best we can determine is we have two or three weeks more to go, or maybe more.”

Dohm said the mayflies produce a foul smelling odor.
