SAINT PAUL, MN (WCMH) – A Minnesota teen was digging for trouble when he was caught on camera stealing a piece of heavy equipment.

According to police, it happened early Tuesday morning in Saint Paul.

The teen took a front end loader, and then drove more than 20 miles through Minneapolis to a used car dealership in Hopkins, Minnesota, police said.

According to KARE-TV in Minneapolis, GPS on the front end loader indicates the teen’s joyride took him through downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota campus.

The joyride ended when the teen used it to break through a fence and damage a building on the used car lot, according to police.

By the time police arrived, the front end loader had crashed through the building and the 15-year-old suspect was found hiding inside, KARE reported.

Police said the teen is a runaway and is currently living in a group home. It was not immediately clear what charges he would face.

The trip through the Twin Cities took about three hours. In that time, if anyone saw him, nobody called police to report suspicious activity.
