COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Peyton Manning’s postgame proclamation of love for Budweiser was likely the most effective ad I saw Sunday night, mainly because I instantly thought, “Man, a Bud sounds good right now.” Good pitchman, that Peyton. Also, shoutout to Nationwide and Papa John’s and anything else he promotes.

Here are my favorite ten actual ads which ran during the game:

10: Kevin Hart for Hyundai:

It was a clever idea, especially for any father of a daughter.

9: Super Bowl Babies:

I mean, maybe kids watching the game had some questions for their parents… Specifically, “where do babies come from?” But it was fun/fascinating to see.

8: Drake T-Mobile:

I’m one of the few people who thought the Drake appearance on SNL was outstanding, and he was great in this ad.

7: Prius bank robbers:

They spent some money on the series of spots, but I thought it was very effective. And if cop cars were Prius’ it would be one heck of a crime deterrent.

6: Mountain Dew puppy monkey baby:

I have no idea what happened in this ad but I remembered that it happened.

5: Colgate faucet:

In all seriousness this was a powerful ad to remind you to be smart about water consumption. When I brush my teeth (which I do at least twice a week) I’ll think about that spot. Very well done.

4: Amazon echo Baldwin:

These ads make echo look really cool, and even though I can’t think of a real reason why I would need one, I kinda want one. Fun fact: I have no idea what an echo does.

3: Bud Light Party:

If Amy Schumer appears, it’s probably funny. She appeared, and it was.

2: Turbo Tax Sir Anthony Hopkins:

At the end of the ad I knew exactly who it was for, which was better than 90% of the spots I saw. And it was kinda funny.

1: Heinz Weiner dogs:

You put a Weiner dog in an ad and I’m probably sold. You put an army of Weiner dogs in an ad and I’m certainly sold. Very funny idea.
Others of note:
  • Doritos baby (I saw it before the game but still laughed in-game)
  • Odell Beckham one-handed catch wedding for Buick (the problem was I had to look up who actually bought the ad)
  • Pokemon I can do that (very positive ad)

I’m sure your favorite ad wasn’t even on my list (maybe it was) but that’s the beautiful part. And why didn’t Cam Newton dive on that fumble in the 4th quarter? Maybe that will be an ad next year.

Anyway, congrats Peyton. Gonna eat some chicken parm now.PHOTOS: Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show
