COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Columbus Foundation is inviting the community to participate in The Big Table, a program aimed at promoting civic engagement through a series of conversations.

The Big Table, which was inspired by The Chicago Community Trust, will take place Tuesday.

The Columbus Foundation estimates roughly 5,000 people will take part in one of more than 400 conversations, sharing ideas on the strengths and weakness faced by the the area.

Hosts are expected to organize groups, generally of eight to twelve participants.

“The number one reason we’re doing it is to inspire civic engagement and for people to realize the impact they can have just by getting together with their friends, colleagues and neighbors,” said Kelley Griesmer, Vice President of Special Projects for The Columbus Foundation.

Once the The Big Table concludes, hosts will be asked to fill out questionnaires, with the results then distributed by The Columbus Foundation.

“Everyone has the power to be part of The Big Table and be heard,” said Griesmer. “We believe these conversations will spark new relationships and ways to work together by deepening our understanding of each other.”
