COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — This week on The Spectrum:
- Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno held a rally in central Ohio on Thursday, alongside a slate of high-profile conservatives. Moreno, who has focused his campaign on issues like the economy and immigration, said migrants are taking resources away from those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
“FEMA this year along spent $650 million resettling migrants, don’t call them immigrants. Immigrant is what I was, follow the legal process,” said Moreno. “These are migrants that came into this country illegally.”
- Marshall attended Moreno’s event to also question Republican Congressman Jim Jordan. When a promised news conference did not happen, Marshall approached Jordan after the event. But, a supporter of Jordan’s tried to run interference.
“President Trump’s gonna win, Bernie’s gonna win Ohio, we’re gonna win the Senate, we’re gonna win the White House and we’re gonna keep the House,” said Jordan.
- Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, former President Trump’s pick for vice president, is back on the campaign trail after many said he won his debate against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate. Still, Vance is being criticized for saying “he’d rather focus on the future” when asked whether Trump won the 2020 election.
“Walz called that ‘a damning non-answer,’ Democrats have already cut that into a campaign ad and they’re hoping that will help them win moderate, independent voters,” Meet the Press host Kristen Welker told Marshall.
- Meanwhile, former Republican Congresswomen Liz Cheney is backing Vice President Harris, and they were out on the campaign trail together for the first time in Wisconsin.
“Harris is hoping that [Cheney’s] presence, her campaigning for her, will really help her to reach some of those moderate, independent, suburban women, maybe even some Republicans, who are frustrated with former President Trump,” said Welker.
