BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) – A multi-vehicle crash has closed the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 78 at the Lebanon/Fredericksburg exits, about seven miles from the I-81 interchange.

PennDOT reports the westbound lanes are closed at Exit 8 for Route 22 and Route 343, and the eastbound lanes are closed at Exit 6 for Route 343.

Multiple emergency units and helicopters have been dispatched to the crash scene near Blue Mountain Road in Bethel Township.

The Lebanon Fire Wire said there was entrapment and multiple people have been flown from the scene.

There have been three confirmed deaths at this time.

Dispatchers said that there are over fifty cars involved in the accident. Multiple injuries have been reported.

PennDOT said that buses have been sent in to get people off the interstate and to shelter safely.

There are several people still trapped in their vehicles.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
