PICKERINGTON, Ohio (WCMH) – A Pickerington woman is happy to be alive after someone threw rocks at her car as she traveled to Columbus on U.S. 33.
Friday night was supposed to be an evening of fun for Mary Jo Factor and a friend.
“I was heading down 33 going to Red, White & BOOM,” said Factor. “All of a sudden I see these cars pulled over and all these people.”
Columbus Police tell NBC4 three juvenile boys are responsible for throwing rocks and other debris from a creek that runs under U.S. 33. On Friday rock knocked out the back side panel window of Mary Jo’s car.
“I said to my friend Sue, ‘what is going on?'” she said. “And then, boom! And I thought maybe there was a wreck and debris in the road.”
There were nine drivers that sustained damage from the incident Friday, which could cost them hundreds of dollars to fix.
“I pulled over immediately and looked back and of course there was glass everywhere,” said Factor. “And at that point I didn’t know if it was a gunshot or what because you know it’s the 4th of July.”
Investigators detained the three suspects Monday evening around 5:30 p.m. Detectives said they caught the boys with rocks in their hands, taking aim at more vehicles.
The juveniles could face charges of criminal mischief, criminal damaging or vandalism. All three are in the care of their families.
Mary Jo Factor said she is grateful no one was hurt.
“The window can be fixed,” she said. “That wasn’t what got me. It was that somebody could be hurt or killed.”
Fortunately, Factor and her friend made it downtown in time for Red, White & BOOM!
“We didn’t get our usual spot, but we still went and we had a good time,” she said.
