COLUMBUS (WCMH) — German village is an historic neighborhood in Columbus. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places.
But some residents who are living there say their beautiful neighborhood is being tainted by equipment being installed by a cable company.
Sharon Pettit lives on Yaegar Street. She has planned a protest and invited other neighbors to gather in front of her home later this month.
“I get this box that’s taking away from the appeal of my house and the neighbors are looking at it. Everyone is furious,” said Pettit.
Dave Ross has lived in German Village for 26 years and is also upset about backup power boxes.
“When they talk about curb image and what have you that certainly doesn’t help it at all. And the value of property is therefore gonna be reduced,” explained Ross.
Shiloh Todorove, Executive Director of the German Village Society installing the power boxes in the tree line along the neighborhood streets is less than ideal especially in light of the fact the neighborhood already has very strict rules for any exterior changes made to these homes.
“What is the point of a historic district if we don’t get a heads up about this kind of thing. That really goes against our aesthetic appeal,” said Todorove.
However, Todorove says both City of Columbus and Time Warner officials have listened to the neighbors’ concerns.
A spokesman for Time Warner Cable released the following statement:
The power supplies are located in public rights of way and help us provide reliable service to local customers, and we’re looking at whether there is another option for this particular power supply.”
