COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Support for Officer Steve Smith continues to pile high at the Columbus Police Memorial.
“It’s very sad,” said Tom Smith, a crime analyst for the Columbus Division of Police. “I’ve probably been out here a half dozen times.”
In the hours after Officer Smith’s funeral, members of the community and officers from around the country continued to pay tribute.
The Brotherhood for the Fallen, a non-profit organization which sends officers to the funerals of those killed in the line of duty, had seven representatives at Smith’s funeral.
Several laid their department’s patches on the memorial.
“We are that thin blue line,” said NYPD Officer Brian Rothermel. “Though we come from different parts of the country, we wear different uniforms and we wear different badges, we all are one.”
The Columbus Police Memorial includes a wall with the names of those officers killed on the job. Officer Smith’s name will become the 54th added. What others are clicking on:
